Ron Souza
Inducted: 1990s
Ron’s journey into football officiating began by accident—he showed up to what he thought was a basketball officials meeting in 1970, only to discover it was for football. Encouraged to give it a try, that simple mistake became a lifelong passion spanning four decades. Ron went on to officiate numerous CIF and City Championship games, including the 1979 State Junior College Championship, and even a memorable matchup between Granada Hills’ John Elway and Kennedy’s Tom Ramsey.
As co-founder of Sports Officiating Schools (SOS) alongside Dale Williams and Bill Malone, Ron helped train officials in football, basketball, and baseball, many of whom went on to successful high school and college careers. Known for his leadership, calm authority, and love of teaching, Ron exemplified professionalism on and off the field. His legacy lives on through the countless officials he inspired and the strong sense of teamwork he fostered throughout his career.
